Shropshire Archery Society Coaching Conference 2025

Shropshire Archery Society Coaching Conference 2025 image

Two members of our coaching team attended the first Shropshire Archery Society (SAS) Coaching Conference this weekend at Eaton Manor, near Church Stretton.

The conference included an excellent session on mental health and the importance of understanding and supporting neurodiverse archers, including those with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and Tourette’s. Coaching neurodiverse athletes requires flexibility, patience, and clear communication. So, coaches were encouraged to use clear, consistent routines and to adapt coaching sessions to individual strengths and needs. Creating a calm, structured environment with short, focused activities can also help sustain engagement, while positive feedback builds confidence and enjoyment in the sport.

Delegates also had the chance to explore and try adaptive equipment designed to make archery more inclusive and accessible for people with disabilities. Tools such as bow mounts, body straps, and support braces can assist archers with limited arm, shoulder, or trunk movement. As shown in the photo, Colin, our Head Coach, had a go using a bow mount with an automatic release aid, demonstrating how adaptive technology can help make archery a sport for everyone.

A big thank you to SAS for organising such a useful event and Long Mynd Archers for using their indoor range - our coaches returned inspired and equipped with new ideas to support all our archers.
